Rallycross fans are set for a weekend to remember at Lydden Hill in two weeks' time - after a record entry was announced for its FIA World Rallycross Championship round.
No fewer than 37 flame-spitting Supercars will line up at the Canterbury circuit on May 24-25, in what is the circuit's biggest-ever entry for the headlining class.
It comes as the event will bring together both World and European championships, making for a stellar line up of drivers at the the 'home of rallycross.'
The massive number of Supercars on the provisional entry list is topped by Petter Solberg, the 2003 World Rally Champion, who won the opening round of the World series in Portugal earlier this month in his Citroen DS3.
The current British Touring Car champion and former Rallycross star Andrew Jordan will race, while local hero Liam Doran has ground to make up after the Monster Energy World RX Team driver failed to score in the season-opener.
Elsewhere, OlsbergsMSE Ford drivers Andreas Bakkerud and Reinis Nitiss will be looking to build on their podium finishes in Portugal, and Tanner Foust, the event winner from Lydden last year, will also be competing.
Foust is better known in America where he presents the US version of the Top Gear TV programme, but is also a renowned racer who will switch from his usual Ford Fiesta mount to a VW Polo for this season.
“It’s an incredible entry – by far the best we’ve ever had at Lydden,” enthused circuit owner Pat Doran.
“The advent of a new world championship for rallycross was a huge step forwards but to have nearly 40 of these sensational Supercars all battling out for the top prize here has exceeded even our wildest expectations.
"It’s going to be an amazing event and one that no-one will want to miss.”
The thrilling bill over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend also includes knock-out heats and finals for Super1600, TouringCar and RX Lites.
Special races for legendary Group B rallycross cars from the eighties and nineties will also feature, in which the circuit owner will feature.
