Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond and Sam Billings have been selected for the England Lions squad to play a 50-over Tri-Series against the A-teams of Pakistan and Sri Lanka later this month.
The pair are set to play in front of their home crowd, with the Spitfire St Lawrence Ground hosting the final two games - against Pakistan A on Sunday July 24 and Sri Lanka A, the following day.
Bell Drummond's call-up is a reward for a fine season to date in red and white ball cricket.
The 22-year-old opening batsman has already scored almost 800 first-class runs, which includes a career-best double hundred against Loughborough MCCU.
He has scored more than 200 runs in T20 cricket and is averaging more than 45 in Royal London One Day 50-over cricket.
However he is presently sidelined with a hand injury, but says he hopes to be fit to face Surrey in the T20 home game at Tunbridge Wells next Friday.
Billings featured for England in their T20 win against Sri Lanka at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday, and is the only wicket-keeper named in the Lions squad, which will be captained by Dawid Malan of Middlesex.
National Selector James Whitaker said: “We’ve had quite a large transition from last winter’s Lions squad to the national side, and that means we will have a much younger group this summer. That is going to make this a challenging series against some experienced cricketers from Sri Lanka and Pakistan, but it will provide a great opportunity for our young players to test themselves.”
England Lions squad for Tri-Series, July 18-25:
Dawid Malan (Middlesex, captain), Daniel Bell-Drummond (Kent), Ben Duckett (Northants), Joe Clarke (Worcestershire), Brett D’Oliveira (Worcestershire), Sam Billings (Kent, wk), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), Tom Curran (Surrey), Jamie Overton (Somerset), Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire), George Garton (Sussex), Sam Curran (Surrey).
