Kent club captain Sam Billings has agreed his latest overseas franchise spell.
It has been revealed Billings, 32, is to play for Dubai Capitals next year in the second season of the DP World ILT20 in the United Arab Emirates.
He’s presently leading the Oval Invincibles at The Hundred competition but has endured a poor summer with Kent.
Billings stepped down as their skipper in four-day cricket for the rest of the season in June and hasn’t played for them since in that format.
But Kent head coach Matt Walker - also with him at the Oval Invincibles in The Hundred, in its third year - says Billings may return for their County Championship Division 1 run-in next month as they aim to avoid relegation.
Announcing the addition of wicketkeeper Billings, who has also played in India, Pakistan and Australia, Dubai Capitals wrote on Twitter: “Adding a ‘Bill’ of excellence to Dubai Capitals.
“Get ready for some ‘Bill’iant cricketing action in the #DPWorldIT20 season two with Sam Billings.”
Others expected to be in the Dubai Capitals squad include England’s Joe Root and Mark Wood, Roelof van der Merwe, who has played for both South Africa and The Netherlands, and controversial Australian opener David Warner.
It’s set to begin next January.
