Matt Milnes is to leave Kent at the end of the season.
Seam bowler Milnes joined Matt Walker’s team at the end of the 2018 season from Nottinghamshire and has made more than 90 appearances for the club, taking 193 wickets, but will now join Yorkshire for their 2023 campaign with the impending move on a three-year contract being announced on his 28th birthday on Friday.
The right-armer was named Bowler of the Year and Players' Player of the Year in 2021, a summer in which Kent Spitfires were crowned T20 Blast champions and won Division 3 of the County Championship.
But this season, Milnes took time to find anything like his best form.
He has taken 21 wickets in nine County Championship games - albeit 11 of those have come in the last two matches he has been involved in - before he didn’t feature as Kent lost to Lancashire by 184 runs.
“I’ve enjoyed every second of my time at Kent and it was an extremely tough decision for me to make to move on,” said Milnes, who will play with Oval Invincibles at this year’s Hundred competition.
“I’ve really valued the opportunity given [to me] by the club to develop as a cricketer over the past four seasons and I will also look back at my time at the club very fondly.
“Winning the Vitality Blast as a Kent player will always be a highlight of my career and I’ve made so many happy memories in the Garden of England.
“Thank you to everyone that has made my time as a Spitfire so enjoyable - the members, supporters, staff, coaches and, of course, my fellow team-mates.”
Milnes was awarded his county cap last September.
This Sunday, Kent will don sky blue for the first time this season for a National County match against Suffolk at Woolpit Cricket Club before they begin their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign at Worcestershire on Tuesday.
