Grace Balsdon is determined for her Canterbury Ladies side to “get back to business” when they visit Leicester on Saturday lunchtime.

The city club’s winning run in the Investec National Premier Division came to an end with a 3-1 defeat at Beeston on Saturday, with rivals Reading overtaking them at the top of the table.

Skipper Balsdon said her players will learn the lessons of their defeat against a defensive Bees side which soaked up pressure and then caught them on the break.

She said: “It was a big lesson to learn. They were a defensive team in a way we have not really played before. We’ll learn from it and we’ll know what to do next time if we encounter it again.”

Leicester have been perennial title challengers in recent years but have endured a summer of upheaval with a new coaching set-up and a host of new faces replacing seasoned internationals, although they still lie just a point outside the play-off spots.

Balsdon said: “Leicester are a different team to the one we saw last year and we don’t know as much about them as we usually do.

“They have won their share of games but had disappointment in others this season already. It’s never an easy game but it would be good to be able to say we have taken care of business this weekend.”
