Canterbury stretch unbeaten run

Lock Rob Keir set up Canterbury's final try

Canterbury extended their unbeaten league run to five games with a spirited 20-11 win at Worthing in National League 3 South.

Although they held a narrow lead from the fifth minute, it was not until deep into stoppage time that the city club finally nailed down victory as flanker Michael Coman's second try denied the Sussex club the bonus point their efforts probably deserved.

They made a fine start when Coman burst from the ruck to score. Gert De Kock converted.

A penalty for Worthing made it 7-3 at half-time leaving Canterbury to reflect on ignoring a simple penalty chance of their own and opting for an unproductive scrum.

Two penalty goals within a minute of each other, the first from De Kock, kept the margin close but Lewitt's grubber kick finally rewarded Canterbury pressure in a good third quarter as De Kock made the touchdown.

Five minutes later, left wing Farnes found space and pace for his try which marked the start of that tense but unsuccessful siege by the home side before lock Rob Keir sent Coman in for the kill.
