Matt Coles says belief remains strong in the Kent camp they can win promotion in the LV= County Championship Division 2 but admits it’s important to ‘get the ball rolling’ with a first victory of the season against Worcestershire at Canterbury starting on Friday.
Coles, who turns 23 next week, says Kent’s prospects of winning the clash between the two winless sides could be helped by Wednesday's three wicket Yorkshire Bank 40 success against the New Road outfit.
He said: “Hopefully we can do the double. We’ll work hard to get that first championship win and then try and get the ball rolling from there.”
“We’re not playing that badly in the four-day game. It’s been tough, we’ve had some tough games but promotion was the aim for this season and we all believe we can do it, and belief is a vital thing.
“We know we’re a good team, but we have to turn up and play like one.”
Dropped catches were blamed for missed opportunities in the opening three four-day games and Coles insisted: “We need to keep concentrating.
"If we drop catches then we can’t point the finger, we have worked well together over the past couple of years and we know we are capable of making catches.
“If someone drops a catch then you have to laugh it off, keep believing in them and hope that helps them hold onto the next one.”
