Zak Crawley is poised to make his T20 Big Bash League debut in Australia with the Hobart Hurricanes after being named as an international replacement player.
The Kent opener, 24, will replace Shadab Khan when he joins up with Pakistan for their New Zealand One-Day Internationals, which begins on January 11.
Crawley, part of England’s Test squad for the three-match series in Pakistan, has never made an appearance in an overseas franchise league to date. He joins a foreign contingent at the Hurricanes which includes Asif Ali and Faheem Ashraf.
At domestic T20 level, the former Tonbridge School pupil has a strike rate of 145.08 having amassed 1,284 runs over 47 appearances, including a top-score of 108 not out in 2020 against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.
“I’m really excited to take part in the Big Bash for the first time,” Crawley told the Hobart Hurricanes website.
“From afar, the Hurricanes seem to be awash with talent, both in terms of the list they have built for on-field success, but also the quality list of support staff they have on it.
“I’m looking forward to taking part in what I hope will be a very successful summer.”
Confirmation of Crawley's arrival brings the number of English players currently bound for spells Down Under to 11, with Brisbane Heat having signed Kent skipper Sam Billings.
Crawley penned a one-year contract extension in August with Kent.
