There will be a fresh look to Canterbury Rugby Club’s line-up when the new season starts in September, with an international prop and three New Zealanders joining head coach Nicky Little’s squad, writes David Haigh.
Croatia prop Ivan Miljak, who is first choice in his country’s European Championship team, will have Kiwi centre Dan Winchester and back-row man Sean Nixon for company.
The fourth signing, lock or back- row forward Tyler Edwards, will join the city club in October after completing playing commitments in New Zealand.
A summer recruitment campaign has also attracted young local talent in Harry Sayers (Dover), Ewan Caborn (Maidstone) and Tom Mount (Thanet Wanderers), all of whom are moving to The Marine Travel ground.
Other additions include back-rower Max Cantwell who returns to the city club after a spell with Old Elthamians.
Several of Canterbury’s successful under-18s side will also step up to senior rugby to widen Little’s options.
The club have moved quickly to fill gaps left by the departure of skipper Tom Sherson and Adam Cathcart, both of whom are returning to New Zealand and prop Sam Kenny, who is leaving to study at university in Scotland.
