BRIAN LUCKHURST: The former county president will cut the first sod

KENT have announced that the ceremony to plant the new lime tree on the outfield at their Canterbury headquarters will take place on Tuesday, March 8.

Former Kent and England batsman and county president for 2004 Brian Luckhurst has been invited to cut the first sod as Kent look to replace their historic 190-year-old icon that succumbed to strong winds on January 7.

All members and supporters are welcome to attend the ceremony.

The county will employ arboreal experts to investigate how best to remove the old lime stump which they are keen to keep intact.
