Kent's Joe Denly has been included in England's 13-man squad to face Ireland in a one-off Test match series starting from Wednesday, July 24 at Lord's.
The 33-year-old has also been included in the 16-man group set to report for a pre-Ashes training camp at St George’s Park this weekend.
Denly is vying for a spot at No.3 in the batting order at this summer's Ashes having been omitted from England's final 15-man World Cup-winning squad.
Denly had to settle for a spot batting at seven during England’s 4-0 ODI series win over Pakistan earlier this year, with his knock of 17 on his sole innings failing to earn him a place at the World Cup.
He responded to that setback with the Ashes in mind, firing 167 during Kent's 285-run win over Nottinghamshire at Tunbridge Wells.
Sunday saw him hit his second century of the county championship season as he made 154 in Kent's draw with Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl.
Making his Test debut earlier this year, Denly made scores of six and 17 against the West Indies. He followed that up in his second Test, by producing 20 and then 69 at No.3 to help steer England towards a 232-run victory over West Indies in St Lucia.
Denly's England duties are likely to see him absent for much of Kent's T20 Vitality Blast campaign, with national selector Ed Smith indicating that the 2018 Professional Cricketers’ Association MVP will be in the team that takes on Ireland next week.
The Kent vice-captain has racked up 11,602 first-class runs at an average of 36.83 so far in his career.
