Experienced batsman Joe Denly has become the latest Kent player to sign a contract extension.
Denly has made more than 450 appearances for the county across two stints since he graduated from the Academy in 2005.
The 36-year-old captained Kent Spitfires last season in their triumphant Royal London One-Day Cup campaign, lifting the trophy at Trent Bridge in September after their final win over Lancashire. Denly in the final struck a 69-ball 78.
Denly, now set to stay at Kent until at least the end of the 2025 season, follows bowlers Nathan Gilchrist and Hamid Qadri - as well as batsman Tawanda Muyeye - in recently penning new deals.
“I’m really pleased to commit to Kent for at least another three seasons,” said Denly, presently playing for Sharjah Warriors at the inaugural International League T20, held across the United Arab Emirates, where he is being coached by Paul Farbrace.
“I still feel like I can make some big contributions as a Kent player and it’s an exciting group that we have now, eager to win more trophies.”
The first man born in Canterbury to both be capped by the club and also play a Test match for England, the right-hander has amassed more than 18,700 runs for Kent across all formats.
He also has 43 Kent hundreds - he is one of six male Kent players to have recorded three figures in an innings in all three forms of the game. His right-arm leg spin has contributed 150 wickets for Kent, too.
On the contract extension of Denly, the reigning Spitfire One-Day Player of the Season, director of cricket Paul Downton added: “Joe is a high-quality player who is an integral part of the dressing room at Kent.
“We believe he will continue to make significant contributions with both bat and ball across all formats.
“Joe has been heavily involved in our trophy-winning sides in white-ball cricket over the past two seasons, captaining the Royal London Cup team superbly, and finishing as our top wicket-taker in the 2021 Vitality Blast final.
“He also brings a huge amount of experience to our Championship batting line-up.”
Whitstable’s Denly initially left Kent in 2011 for Middlesex but, just three years later, he returned ahead of the 2015 campaign.
He has also played in all three formats for England, last featuring in 2020.
