Canterbury captain Michael Farrer has targeted a winning streak to finish the first half of their schedule and secure their place in the play-off race.

The city club are up to fifth in the NOW: Pensions National Premier Division, just two points behind Surbiton, who occupy the final play-off place.

Farrer’s side host next-to-bottom Sheffield Hallam at Polo Farm on Sunday lunchtime (12.45pm) and Farrer hopes they can repeat the performance and success of the 5-1 demolition of Surbiton last time out.

He said: “Sheffield are newly promoted and it’s always a struggle for teams when they first come up.

“We are home and confidence is high after the Surbiton game so we’re targeting the three points.”

With a trip to lower-half Hampstead & Westminster to follow a week later to complete the first nine games of their 18-game season, Farrer added: “The next two games will complete the first half of the season and two wins would put us in a good position going into the second half.

“If we could win the next two, then that would be three wins on the trot going into a couple of tough games against Reading and East Grinstead before the Christmas break.

“If we were able to break back into that top four before those games, we would go in with a lot of confidence.

“We had a good winning run at this stage last season and we want to repeat that this year.”

Ross Gilham-Jones is the only doubt for the city club after illness.
