Canterbury skipper Michael Farrer says Canterbury have a score to settle when they host Surbiton on Saturday.

The city club lost in the NOW Pensions National Premier Division play-off semi-final against Surbiton last season, with the Surrey side claiming a place in Europe as a result.

Farrer said: “East Grinstead, Beeston and Reading look to be pulling away and it’s Surbiton that are in the position everyone needs to catch.

“We certainly have a grudge to settle. After the disappointment of last year and seeing them a couple of weeks ago, taking ‘our’ spot in Europe. Hopefully we can win and prove a point.”

Canterbury’s attempt at a comeback at leaders Beeston fell short as they went down 3-2 on Sunday.

Farrer said: “We played well in periods and had a couple of opportunities but, credit to them, they are champions for a reason. We will take some positives, we competed well and 3-2 is not a disaster.”
