Michael Farrer wants his Canterbury side to be more clinical when they host fellow National Premier Division strugglers Wimbledon.

A point separates the bottom five teams as the city club seek to overcome fourth-bottom Wimbledon at Polo Farm on Saturday (6pm) and captain Farrer said: “If we want to be pushing higher up the table as we were last year, then we need to start putting points on the board sooner rather than later.

“There’s no such thing as a must-win game at this stage. We don’t want to put undue pressure on ourselves, what we want to do is right the wrongs of last weekend.”

Canterbury suffered a 6-4 defeat at Cannock after falling 4-0 down before the break.

Farrer said: “In the first half we were just not good enough. We dominated possession but they were clinical with their chances and we were not.

“If we’d scored earlier, then maybe we could have come all the way back and at 5-4 you wondered if we could sneak another one but there were only 90 seconds left. It was always going to be a tough ask.”

He added: “It’s a shame because that was the most experienced team we’ve been able to put out at Canterbury in years, we only had one under-18 out there. We created chances but we need to take them against Wimbledon.”
