Father and son Dave and Gary Tottman have been drawn together in the last eight of this year's Kent Messenger Group Sunshine Golf Challenge.
Both are former champions - dad Dave won in 1994 and Gary 10 years later - and members at Canterbury Golf Club.
Gary, 33, booked his place in the quarter-finals by winning a thrilling match against two-time former champion Steve Lovell (h5, Sittingbourne).
Lovell, who won the national title in 2006, was 2-up with three to play against Tottman (h6), who birdied the 16th and won the 17th to level the match.
Both players parred the 18th to take the game into sudden death extra holes. Amazingly, both birdied the par-5 1st - the first extra hole - before Tottman won the par-3 2nd.
His 62-year-old father Dave also had a tight game in his last-16 clash with 72-year-old Tudor Park member James Walsh. They were all-square standing on the 18th tee at Canterbury and a regulation par-5 for Tottman gave him victory.
Dave has mixed feelings about playing Gary in the last eight. They have never played each other in a competitive game and he diplomatically said: "Parts of Gary's game are better than mine - others aren't. I have new clubs which have made me longer off the tee. It should be a good game."
Gary added: "It was a great game against Steve. I was delighted to win as I was two down with three to play. I've got mixed emotions about playing dad in the last eight. It would have been nice if we could have played each other in the final but that's the draw. It's a great competition and representing the Kent Messenger Group in Portugal in November's national finals is a great honour."
Last 16 results: Tom Robertson (h9, Shortlands) beat Nick Hales (h14, Upchurch River Valley) 21st hole (third extra hole), Barry Venner (h13) beat Stephen Neal (h21, Gillingham) 19th (first extra hole), Dave Tottman (h7, Canterbury) beat James Walsh (h12, Tudor Park) 1-up, Gary Tottman (h6, Canterbury) beat Steve Lovell (h5, Sittingbourne) 20th (second sudden death hole), Pat Goode (h15, Canterbury) beat Anthony Bensted (h11, Whitstable & Seasalter) 3&2, Steven Sharkey (h13, Farleigh Court) beat Alan Carter (h8, Lydd) 3&1, Peter Ludlow (h14, Gillingham) beat Sam Gibbons (h14, Royal St Georges) 4&3, Trevor Sandford (h15, Tudor Park) beat David Morgan (h10, West Malling) 2&1.
