THE Fijian stars of the Armed Tigers will be a major attraction and hot favourites to take the top prize at the Kent Spitfire Sevens at Canterbury on Sunday.
The Army men, all from the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment which has strong connections with the city, will be looking to reclaim the crown they won two years ago from holders Canterbury.
They are making the journey from their base in Germany to take in both the Army v Navy game at Twickenham and the county Sevens tournament.
They will face military firepower from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, now based at city's Howe Barracks, the former home of the PWRR, and entering the tournament for the first time.
The Tigers are one of 20 entries to the Spitfire event which has attracted teams from Birmingham, London and Oxford as well as an increased number of Kent clubs.
Over £3000 in prizes are on offer making it the most valuable competition of its kind in the county.
"Since we revived what was already a highly successful tournament as the full county event last year the interest has really grown," said club spokesman David Haigh.
"Entries from Kent clubs have increased and the quality of the guest teams proves the Kent Spitfire event is a major end of season attraction."
The tournament, which is backed by county sponsors Shepherd Neame, the Kent Messenger Group, Maypole Marquees, Lea-Ray of Faversham and Canterbury Clothing Company of New Zealand, starts at 12 noon.
There will be the club's famous pig roast and the bars will be open throughout the day.
