KENT'S Will Gollop will hope to salvage some consolation from a frustrating season at Brands Hatch on Sunday, October 31.
The Canterbury-based driver, runner-up in the MSA British Rallycross Championship last year, won the first event of this season in March.
But he has been out of action for much of the rest of the year after suffering an engine failure in his Ford Focus.
Champion-elect Dermot Carnegie squares up to the largest Supercar entry of the year, the first appearance in the sport of Irish rallying hero Andrew Nesbitt and the farewell event for the legendary Ford RS200 Group B car.
The championship may be over, but Carnegie, of Dublin, says: “I can go to the final round and be free to race without thinking that a finish in the points is better than winning. That will be fun, and I want to have a go with Andrew Nesbitt.”
Nesbitt, of Armagh, has been invited to drive in the event by Pat Doran, who is lending the Ulsterman his Ford Escort WRC.
The former Irish Rally Champion has taken a keen interest in Rallycross this year as his son, Graeme, has been competing in the Junior Championship.
He said: “It’s an ideal opportunity to try Rallycross, just the idea of it has given me an adrenalin rush.”
Doran, of Milstead, will give his Ford RS200 its last outing in Rallycross at Brands Hatch.
The last car of its type in the sport, Doran has not raced the sleek Group B machine since engine problems caused three consecutive retirements at the start of this season.
He said: “We’re getting the car back together for Brands Hatch and I want to give the old girl a proper send off.”
Practice is 10am, racing from 10.30am.
Admission is £10 for adult, free for children up to 15. Advance tickets, at a saving of £2, are available from www.motorsportdirect.co.uk; telephone 01474 872331
