Canterbury 3 Loughborough Students 4

A LAST minute goal sealed a 4-3 defeat for Canterbury Hockey Club’s men, and sent them to the bottom of the Premier Division in the Slazenger England League on Saturday night.

Canterbury had gone behind to visitors Loughborough Students in the 20th minute, when Richard Smith struck, but penalty corner strikes from David Mathews and Andrew Dunn gave them a 2-1 half-time lead.

Mark Gleghorne turned the game back in the Students’ favour with two goals after the interval, the first a penalty stroke, but Ben Hare appeared to have rescued a point for Canterbury six minutes from time, only for Tim Cockram to snatch Loughborough’s winner as time ran out.
