CANTERBURY'S Cathy Gilliat-Smith has earned a recall to the England squad ahead of the EuroHockey Nations Championships in Manchester later this month.
The 26-year-old, who has 57 caps, joins club-mate Mel Clewlow in the 28-strong squad for the tournament, which begins on August 18.
However, Polo Farm team-mates Becky Duggan and Hayley Brown were omitted, despite representing England in June's Champions Challenge tournament in Azerbaijan.
Defender Clewlow was in the England side which won the bronze medal at the last Euro Championships in Dublin two years ago. The 31-year-old has won 174 England caps and a further 48 for Great Britain.
Current England and former Canterbury coach Danny Kerry said: "We feel we have selected a squad that will deliver in our most important tournament in 2007.
"Cathy returns to the squad providing a gritty work ethic and a willingness to place herself in harm's way to score goals."
England will face Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Germany between August 18 and August 22 and will hope to progress to the final which is held on August 26.
