Clifton Ladies 2 Canterbury Ladies 3
CANTERBURY Ladies made it wins out of two in the Slazenger English Hockey League with a 3-2 away success against Clifton.
Two goals in as many minutes gave the visitors a healthy half-time lead, but Clifton hit back to equalise before England international Cathy Gilliat-Smith scored Canterbury's winner.
After a slow start Canterbury went ahead on 26 minutes when player-coach Mel Clewlow fired home a short corner.
Clifton had barely had time to recover from that when Jen Wilson's long free hit picked out Hayley Brown who rolled her defender before scoring with a reverse-stick shot.
Clifton came all out strongly in the second period and after, Carys Hopkins had pulled a goal back Elizabeth Sinton levelled.
Coach Clewlow admitted Clifton probably looked the more likely winners at that stage but it was Canterbury who nicked the points when Brown and Gilliat-Smith combined in a break from halfway for Gilliat-Smith to touch home.
