KENT edged their second pre-season victory over Nottinghamshire in as many days by holding their nerve at the death to clinch a four-run win in their one-day friendly at the St Lawrence ground today (Friday).

Batting first, Kent made the most of some short boundaries and a sluggish pitch to amass 258 for eight from their 50 overs.

England's winter tourist James Tredwell top scored with an unbeaten 61 from 76 balls, but the real impetus to the innings came later on through Geraint Jones, with 50 from 47 balls, then Amjad Khan, who smashed 44 from 38 balls on his first team comeback after a year out through injury.

Nottinghamshire made a decent fist of the run chase through Guy Franks with an unbeaten 52 and another half-century from Gareth Clough, but Kent's seam attack kept it tight when it mattered most to secure the win.

Martin Saggers, who has been suffering from a virus of late, was the pick of the attack with three for 40, while Surrey-based trialist David Burton took two for 64.

Khan eased through for overs yet failed to take a wicket, but former Kent boys Mark Ealham and Rob Ferley both suffered miserable returns. Ealham was dismissed for two and Ferley finished with only 12.

Kent are next in action against Surrey in two more one-day friendlies to be held at the Beckenham County Ground in Worsley Bridge Road on Wednesday, April 9 and Thursday, April 10.

The action is scheduled to start at 11am and admission is free.
