Jimmy Adams believes the Kent squad are in a good place as the cricket season heads towards its climax with the county still chasing glory on two fronts.
Sam Northeast’s side temporarily topped Specsavers County Championship Division 2 after wrapping up a 10-wicket win against Worcestershire at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence on Saturday.
That victory came on the back of three successive wins in the Royal London One-Day Cup and head coach Adams says the players are now gearing up for one last push.
He said: “The boys are all happy with the way things have gone, what with the good results in 50 over cricket and then the championship win against Worcestershire which was a real team performance.
“It’s all credit to them. They’ve worked hard to get where we are. They’ve handled the pressure well and it’s particularly good to see them come through in must-win situations.
“All season we’ve been a happy camp and importantly they are all a year older and wiser and are keen now to take things a few steps further.
“The good thing is that they have never stopped believing in themselves.” Adams admits the squad will have had a few days off before they face Yorkshire in the RLODC quarter-final at Canterbury on Thursday, August 18 and he says for most of them that game can’t come quickly enough.
He added: “The last two months have been pretty manic, both physically and mentally but the boys are looking forward to the Yorkshire game. We’re happy to still be involved in two competitions and they know we now just need one more big push.”
Supporters are reminded that the Yorkshire game is all-ticket and so far more than half of the 6,000 tickets have been sold. Advance prices are £20 for adults and £1 for under 16s, but gate prices will rise to to £30 adults and £10 for youngsters.
