Heino Kuhn says Kent wanted to win more than Surrey in their game at The County Ground, Beckenham on Friday.
Kuhn scored 117 to help the Spitfires to a dominant 220 run victory over their rivals in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
It was the South African’s first century for the club since signing on a two-year Kolpak deal earlier this year.
Kuhn said: “It feels like the guys wanted it a little bit more than the other team. We train hard and we take it onto the field.
“It’s always nice to get your first hundred and I’m very happy and hopefully there’s many more to come. The other guys should get the credit because I could just play my game around them.
“To come from the Championship to the white ball cricket we needed to adapt a little quicker and we have now.
“Four wins in a row and the guys are happy and we just need to take this further on to the rest of the games.”
Kuhn top-scored in the Kent innings as they posted 384 in 50 overs. He built strong partnerships with Joe Denly and Alex Blake with the latter accelerating the Spitfires’ innings with some superb six hitting.
Kuhn said: “It was nice to watch Alex Blake. He actually asked me should I go for six in a row and I said ‘if the ball is there then go for it’. He went two, three and four and unluckily got out. It made my job a little easier.
“Joe (Denly) batted phenomenally as well and gave me the confidence to play my game and hit the bad ball for four.”
Darren Stevens then took 6-25 as Surrey were bowled out for 164 with Kuhn heaping praise on his skills as a bowler.
He added: “He loves the game so much and smiles every day. He’s a phenomenal bowler and puts the ball on a 5p and it does something and people struggle to get him away. I’m glad he’s on my team.”
