THE late Colin Cowdrey was among the latest players to be honoured with the award of a commemorative numbered cap at a ceremony at Canterbury's St Lawrence ground.

Since the club was formed in 1870, 196 players have been capped by the county, and numbered caps are being presented to them or members of their families.

Former president Dererk Upton said: "This honour has been especially created to commemorate every capped player's contribution to Kent's cricket history."

Cap No 59, in hourour of Arthur Fielder, who played between 1900-1914, was presented to his great-granddaughter, Jodie, a BBC television and radio presenter; No 119 for Colin Cowdrey 1950-1976, presented to sons Jeremy and Chris and grandson Charlie, No 134 to Peter Richardson, 1959-1965, and No 159 to Graham Dilley, 1977-1986.

The ceremony was held during Kent's Championship match against Sussex.
