Canterbury 37 Lydney 32

GERT DE KOCK grabbed a last-gasp try as Canterbury pipped Lydney 37-32 in National League 3 South at Merton Lane on Saturday.

Only seconds remained when Canterbury forced a turnover just inside their own half and de Kock raced to the line for a try he also converted, with the last kick of the contest.

De Kock's try climaxed a fluctuating afternoon for the hosts who had led 27-10 early in the second half before conceding 22 points in as many minutes to trail 32-30.

The win was Canterbury's first in three league matches with fly-half de Kock finishing with a personal haul of 22 points, having scored the game's opening try, after charging down at attempted clearance in the opening minutes.

Man of the match Mike Melford scored two tries, the second after he had gathered his own short kick ahead, while half-time replacement Theo Rhodes scored the other try, scoring with his first touch.

WESTCOMBE PARK cruised to a 40-14 victory over Redruth in National League Divison 2 on Saturday.

Coombe had lost the previous meeting 19-16 but on home soil they dominated despite enduring a tricky opening half.

Redruth were playing with the wind in the first half and led going into the break 9-7 after scoring three penalties.

Coombe scored their points with a converted try from Gideon Roux.

The second half belonged to Westcombe Park and Roux scored a second try, which was converted by James Whittingham, to give them a 14-9 lead.

Further tries were scored by Lee Campion, Adam Slade and Rory Damant before Redruth scored their only try of the match from captain Mark Bright.

Coombe finished the match on a high as Steve Croall went over the line.
