CANTERBURY all-rounder Ryan Minter had a debut to remember as the Kent Cricket Board defeated Leicestershire Cricket Board in a qualifier for next season's Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. The 21-year old produced the best bowling by a debutant in the competition's history, taking six for eight in his seven-over spell, including a burst of four wickets in 12 balls. He was only in the side after a serious injury to captain Andy Tutt the previous Sunday.
Kent, with five debutants, decided to bat first in damp conditions and a third wicket partnership between Matt Banes and fellow Kent batsman Alex Louden put them in control, putting on 132 in just 119 balls.
Both were run out, Banes for 82 and Louden for 53.
St Lawrence batsman Lewis Jenkins shepherded the lower order, reaching 50 off the last ball, as the Kent innings closed at 280 for nine, with 46 extras.
Heavy rain then forced the abandonment of play for the day, but second day was brighter. The Leicestershire Board got off to a rapid start in their run chase, reaching 53 for one by the 11th over, Andy Bray making an early breakthrough.
Then Minter dismissed both Leicestershire staff players, Adshead and Ashley Wright, in the space of seven balls.
After Rob Ferley took the fourth wicket, Minter followed this with four in 12 balls, including that of former Mote batsman Dan Furnival.
Sixteen-year-old Luke Wright produced a couple of attacking shots as the last wicket pair delayed the inevitable, until Mark Alexander took a stumping to give James Lincoln his first C&G wicket.
