Kent all-rounder Jimmy Neesham says the Spitfires have everything they need to win the NatWest T20 Blast.
The Kiwi international was a vital part of a superb late comeback to win at Hampshire on Tuesday, conceding just two runs and taking a wicket in the 18th over of the reply which paved the way for Kent to defend a total of 159.
Matt Coles and Mitch Claydon allowed just 16 runs combined over the final two overs as the Spitfires sneaked home by five runs and Neesham said: “My wicket of Liam Dawson was part of the comeback but the way Mitchy and Colesy closed up the last two overs was exceptional.
“We knew we were behind the eight ball for much of that second innings but knew a couple of good overs and we were right back in it.”
It secured a fourth win and took them level on points with fourth-placed Hampshire with just five games to go and only six points separating first from Friday’s visitors to Canterbury, basement-boys Sussex (7pm).
Neesham said: “Every team in the group will be eyeing up the top couple of spots, which is rare but half of them are going to finish up out of the quarter-finals.
“There’s no point in making too big a deal out of one win, we’ve got to go out and do exactly the same thing on Friday.
“The top order have been outstanding for us so far and Joe Denly should be player-of- the-month hopefully.
“They have papered over a couple of cracks in the bowling attack to be honest over the last couple of weeks and that’s something we’ve talked about.
“There’s enough talent on both sides of the ball for us to go all the way. We just want to take it one game at a time.”
