Opener Ben Compton has joined Kent on a two-year deal.
The 27-year-old is part of the same cricketing family which has already produced England openers Denis and Nick Compton.
He has five first-class appearances to his name but links up with Matt Walker's squad after he averaged an impressive 51.08 in this year’s 2nd XI Championship for Nottinghamshire, scoring two centuries.
The left-hander also featured for Kent in the 2019 2nd XI Championship.
He made 116 not out on debut, scoring successive hundreds against Middlesex and Sussex, and averaged 62.40 from his eight matches.
Compton is keen to repay the faith Kent have shown in him.
"I have some good memories of wearing a Kent shirt for the 2nd XI - I’m looking forward to playing in front of Kent’s members and supporters, and giving this club my all," he said.
"I’m grateful to Paul Downton for this opportunity given to me and I’m eager to repay the faith shown in me."
Compton also scored 71 on his List A debut for Notts in the 2021 Royal London Cup in a two-wicket success over Northamptonshire in August.
Kent director of cricket Paul Downton said: “Ben is a tenacious cricketer who has shown some real resilience in pursuing his career in professional cricket.
“He has been a consistent run scorer in the 2nd XI Championship and fully deserves this opportunity at Kent.
"As a specialist opening batter, he will add strength to our squad as we aim to be competitive in all three competitions next season."
Ben is the cousin of Nick and grandson of England great Denis.
