FA Trophy heroes Whitstable Town are plotting another upset this weekend.

Nicky Southall takes the Oystermen to Hendon on Sunday for the seventh game of their record-breaking Trophy run.

Whitstable have banked £12,450 in prize money already and they are looking to knock out Ryman League, Premier Division opposition for the second round running.

Having won 2-1 at Carshalton Athletic a fortnight ago, Southall sees no reason why his players can’t make more headlines on Sunday.

He said: “We’ve got a great game to look forward to. No-one gives us a chance but we can go there and win. I think we’ll take them all the way.

“We went 1-0 down at Carshalton. We haven’t had it easy in this FA Trophy run – in fact, it’s been about as difficult as you could get.

“We’ve had Hythe away, Carshalton away, Potters Bar home and away, so we’ve got to take encouragement from all those experiences.”

Hendon are 11th in the Ryman Premier, 31 places above Southall’s side in the non-league pyramid, but the Oystermen go into the tie on the back of five straight wins in all competitions.

Southall said: “We’ve got to be focused and take the game to them. There’s no point sitting back and waiting to get beat. You can sometimes regret things but I’ll have no qualms if my players give everything.”

Full-back Adam Hooper has work commitments and will miss the game but former Gillingham and Trinidad & Tobago defender Ian Cox should be available.

Southall, meanwhile, expressed his disappointment at captain James Morrish’s decision to join Kent rivals Hythe.

He said: “I wasn’t happy with him going but he’s made his choice and only time will tell whether he was right or wrong.

“We couldn’t match Hythe in monetary terms, so he went for the bigger pay day. I don’t think that’s the right reason to leave a club.

“James wasn’t in the squad this time last year. I saw something in him, so I feel a little bit let down (that he’s left). I managed to improve him as a player, so for him to up sticks and go somewhere else leaves a bit of a sour taste.”

Whitstable travel to Walton & Hersham for a league game on Tuesday (7.45pm).
