Parnell set to meet new Kent team-mates

Kent's overseas signing Wayne Parnell is set to meet his new team-mates for the first time on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old South African left-arm seamer was due to arrive at Heathrow at lunchtime on Monday, and is set to make his debut in the LV County Championship Division 2 game against Essex which starts at Chelmsford on Wednesday.

Parnell has signed a six-week contract which will boost Kent's ailing bowling resources, and reports from South Africa suggest that he could be included in the squad for the Twenty20 World Cup in England later this summer.

A Cricket SA statement said: “He will be required to return towards the end of May for the Proteas’ Standard Bank Pro20 squad’s camp ahead of the ICC World T20 in England."

National coach Mickey Arthur said he was delighted that Parnell was getting the chance to broaden his experience in England. He said: “It is a very good move for Wayne at this stage of his career and benefits both Wayne and Cricket South Africa.”

Meanwhile, Amjad Khan sees a specialist in London on Tuesday to re-assess his knee injury suffered on England's tour to the West Indies. Robbie Joseph (shoulder) could be available to face Essex, but Simon Cook (back) is still ruled out.
