A penalty shoot-out win ensured Canterbury St Augustine’s progressed to a National Cup under-12s’ Semi-Final.

Played in treacherous weather conditions, the last-eight ESFA Champions Cup nine-a-side tie finished 1-1 with Southampton District before the home side came out on top on penalties - like they did in the previous round - at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys on Saturday, March 2.

The conditions made a big impact with the match goalless at the interval before the away side went ahead with about 25 minutes to go.

But the goal sparked Canterbury St Augustine’s into life. Amari Davis levelled for them after they had been knocking on the door for a few minutes.

Both halves of extra-time again were cagey and the teams looked nervous, with the game going to penalties.

The shoot-out finished with David Siedlecki making a great save - just like he had in their Quarter-Final win - with captain-on-the-day Finley Eastwood, Dexter Cook, Austin Gray and Charlie Lyonette on target in their 4-2 victory.

Team manager Nicky Lewis said: “This group of boys - from the moment the season started - have worked tirelessly for each other and have dug deep when it has mattered. This was another fine example of how talented this group of players are.

“Considering we have only been a squad since September, the team has gone from strength-to-strength.

“They should be proud of themselves and I also want to thank all of the parents and family members who support us each week as they are a big driving force into the family atmosphere that feeds into the team.”

It looks like Canterbury St Augustine’s will face Swansea away in their Semi-Final.
