Andy Pratt says if Canterbury are going to stand a chance of promotion from National 2 South then they need to pick up wins in games like Saturday’s trip to Chinnor.

The city club sit second, in possession of the sole promotion play-off place, but with a daunting schedule ahead of them during the run-in.

Seven of Canterbury’s final 12 games are away from home and seven of their remaining games are against other top-10 sides, starting with 10th-placed Chinnor.

Just six points separate the city club from fifth-placed Southend, and head coach Pratt said: “We do focus a little more on the table than we did earlier in the season.

“Cambridge are fourth, two points behind us, but they were well-beaten at the weekend. They are probably in the best position though.

"The majority of their remaining games are at home and they have played us, (third-placed) Ampthill and (leaders) Hartpury twice.

“None of the other top teams are able to influence their results from here on.”

He added: “Chinnor is the kind of game we need to win if we can have any aspirations of that promotion play-off place – our away form needs to be better.

“It’s not going to be easy, but we can do it. There has not been a game this season that we didn’t have a chance to win.

“They will be favourites, because of our away form mainly, but it’s up to us to show the mental toughness we need when we’re away from home.”
