Imran Qayyum was pleased with taking three wickets for the first time in a T20 match in Kent’s game with Surrey on Friday.
The spinner took a career-best 3-40 from three overs as Surrey blasted their way to 250-6 at The Spitfire Ground, including the prized wicket of Aaron Finch.
Qayyum said: “It was good. I was still disappointed going for the runs I went for. I’m quite tough on myself but that’s T20 cricket. You try and limit the amount of runs and if you get wickets along the way then that’s the positive you can take.
“The key is to stay clear in your mind. Being clear in your plans and when plan A doesn’t work you can go to plan B or C.
“I still think we could have been better with our execution (with the ball). If they have 250 on the board then you have done something wrong.
“If you are going at 10 an over or under you are doing well. There’s definitely improvements that can be made.”
A heavy downpour between innings prevented Kent from attempting to chase down that total and the match was abandoned with a point for each side.
It was Surrey’s record T20 total and would have needed the home side to smash their previous highest score.
Qayyum said: “We always seem to do well against Surrey and we backed ourselves to chase it down tonight.
“It would have been a great spectacle. We would have looked to have chased it down hopefully but the rain came down and we took a point from it, which is a positive we can take from the evening.
“Everything was in the favour of the batter, the short boundary one side and the fact the rain was falling.
“We have world class batters in our team as well and I think that was the right score on that wicket.”
