A record-breaking Ollie Robinson double century ensured Kent won their opening Royal London One-Day Cup encounter on Tuesday at Worcestershire.
Robinson, 23, surpassed the previous best Kent performance in 50-over cricket of 150 not out by Joe Denly against Glamorgan at Canterbury four years ago as he ended up unbeaten on 206.
It was also the competition's highest score and the first double century in an English 50-over game since 2008.
Former Kent Academy player Kashif Ali had scored an impressive 114 on his List A debut for Worcestershire, who recovered from 36-4 to post what looked like a formidable total of 351-8.
Matt Henry, in his only match in the competition before linking up with New Zealand, finished with the best figures for Kent of 3-56. Matt Quinn (3-64) took three wickets too.
But wicketkeeper Robinson, who had struck a century against Suffolk on Sunday, received superb support from Ben Compton.
They produced a stand of 204 - Kent’s highest second-wicket partnership against any county in this form of the game.
Their partnership ended when Compton, on 75, pulled captain Brett D’Oliveira down Ed Barnard’s throat at deep mid wicket.
Stand-in skipper Alex Blake was strangled down the leg-side off Dillon Pennington but there was no let-up by Robinson.
He reached his double hundred with a lofted off drive against Josh Baker from just 130 balls with six sixes and 26 fours.
Kent’s veteran all-rounder Darren Stevens helped get his side over the line alongside Robinson, finishing unbeaten on 25 off 19 balls, in the 45th over.
The victory came despite Kent captain Denly missing the match through a back injury.
