FFION NEWBERRY is proving a real success story for the Appeti Tennis Centre in Canterbury.
The 15-year-old won five Lawn Tennis Association Junior events in the space of six weeks this summer.
She played 36 matches, winning 29 of them on her way to two under-18 and three under-16 titles at the Essex Junior Open, St Georges Hill Junior Open, New Malden Junior Open and the Radlett Junior Open.
She made the quarter-finals in every tournament she played, finishing under-18 runner-up in the Beckenham Junior Open, semi-finalist in three others, and quarters and semis in the Kent Junior County Closed Championships.
Ffion’s success also saw her finish fourth in the Under-16 Girls standings of the Sunday Telegraph Junior Grand Prix, which has earned her a trip to La Manga in Spain later this year.
Coach and centre principal, Eb Appeti, said: "It’s a fantastic set of results, and Ffion worked very hard."
Reflecting on her success, Ffion added: “Physically I was OK, but very mentally tired."
Her form has hoisted her into the top 70 at under-16 level, and top 50 at under-18.
