Kent skipper Sam Billings has been added to the England Test squad for the forthcoming matches against New Zealand.
Billings, along with Nottinghamshire batsman Hasseb Hameed, has been called up following an injury to Surrey wicketkeeper Ben Foakes.
Foakes has torn his left hamstring after slipping in the dressing room following Surrey's County Championship game with Middlesex on Sunday and is expected to be ruled out for at least three months.
Billings has featured only once for Kent this summer, in the rain-affected draw with Glamorgan at Canterbury last week. He didn't keep wicket in that game, however, with Ollie Robinson retaining the gloves for Kent.
Billings had previously been at the IPL, although he never played a game prior to the competition being postponed. An established member of England's one-day squads, Billings has never been called up for Test duty before.
He joins Kent team-mate Zak Crawley, who was selected in the original 15-man England squad announced last week.
Hameed has been in impressive form this season, scoring 474 runs at an average of 52.66. He last played Test cricket in November 2016.
Hameed will play for Nottinghamshire in this week’s County Championship match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston starting on Thursday.
The first Test takes place at Lord’s on June 2-6 and they then head to Edgbaston on June 10-14 for the second Test.
