Kent captain Sam Billings has a fresh new look.
He had his head shaved on Tuesday morning to help raise funds for the NHS.
Like the rest of the county squad, he is staying home during the lockdown, but it hasn’t stopped him doing his bit during the coronavirus crisis.
Billings agreed to lose the hair as part of the “shave, donate, nominate” fundraising scheme.
The nationwide head shave campaign says: “To show our support for the wonderful work the NHS continue to do during the Coronavirus crisis, we aim to raise as much money as possible through a nationwide head shave Instagram campaign.”
A target of £20,000 has been set and they are already over halfway there. You can donate here.
Kent cricket head coach Matt Walker said: "If you knew how important his hair is to him then you’ll understand this was a BIG gesture! Please donate everyone!"
Funds raised will go towards protective clothing for nurses and doctors, more hospital beds or equipment to support those who are suffering from covid-19.
Billings recently praised the NHS, saying: “I want to say a huge thank you to all of the NHS staff around the country fighting this virus.
“There are 7,500 doctors and nurses who have come out of retirement as well to fight this virus on the front line. You are all absolute heroes and we admire you are doing.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We are going to do our own little bit and stay at home as well.”
Before the lockdown, Billings recently offered to help do shopping for those in isolation around the Canterbury area.
The domestic season was due to open on April 12 but the ECB announced a seven-week delay, pushing the start back until at least May 28.
Meanwhile, the club’s general meeting has been postponed, replaced for now by an online members' forum, while fans will get to see left-arm spinner Imran Qayyum take the controls for the county when they enter the e-sport Cricket 19 Quarantine Cup.
