Speculation over Kent's second overseas recruit

KENT are making no official comment about reports linking South African batsman Martin van Jaarsveld with a move to Canterbury.

The 30-year-old has been mentioned as a possible second overseas recruit, following the signing of fellow countryman Andrew Hall and the appointment of former coach Graham Ford as the county’s new director of cricket.

But at the moment it remains speculation.

A St Lawrence spokesperson said: "Talks about the situation concerning our other overseas signing are still ongoing, and we are not in a position to make any comment at this stage."

Van Jaarsfeld played in the second Test against England but has been unable to hold down a regular place in the national side. He scored 484 runs in seven championship matches for Northamptonshire last year, including a highest score of 114, made against Kent.
