Kent have signed Nottinghamshire all-rounder Will Gidman on a month's loan and he is set to make his debut in the Spitfires' One-Day Cup clash at Lord's on Sunday.
Kent play the fifth game of their Royal London Cup campaign at 11am in the first of six matches in which the 31-year-old left-hander is available to play after being drafted in as cover for Calum Haggett (ankle) and Fabian Cowdrey, who had an emergency appendix op last weekend.
Gidman could feature in four One-Day Cup games and the next two Specsavers County Championship Division 2 fixtures.
He can play against Hampshire at The Ageas Bowl, on Tuesday, a home clash with his former county Gloucestershire next Sunday July 31) and a trip to Hove to face Sussex Sharks on Tuesday, August 2.
Gidman has taken 198 First Class wickets at an average of 23.48 and could feature with the red ball against Worcestershire at Canterbury, before rounding off his spell with a further contest against his former colleagues at Gloucestershire, this time at Bristol.
Kent captain Sam Northeast said: "Will was a serious talent during his time at Gloucestershire.
“He doesn’t have blistering pace but is very skilful with the ball and gets a few runs.
“With Fabian and Calum out, he will bolster our resources and I’m sure he will do a great job going forward.
“He is hungry to play and we hope he will come into the side and buy into what the team is all about as our two overseas players have.”
