Unbeaten Canterbury St Augustine's boys’ under-12s have progressed to the Quarter-Final of a national competition.

They won their final-16 match against Tonbridge and Malling 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, having topped their group, and will be at home to Southampton at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys at the last-eight stage.

The first group-stage game saw Canterbury miss several chances and a penalty as they drew 1-1 with Newham. Mason Musty, of Herne Bay High School, was player-of-the-match.

New face Asher Adisa bagged two goals on his full Canterbury debut amid a player-of-the-match display in their 6-0 success over Bexley.

There were two hat-tricks - from Dexter Cook of Herne Bay High School and St Edmund’s School’s Adisa - as they ran out 8-0 winners against Gravesham. Louie Cassell played in a different position and dictated midfield.

Canterbury’s final group-stage game took them to Swale. With the returning Charlie Lyonette partnering Cassell in the middle, they controlled the engine room which allowed Cook to bag a brace in another 6-0 success.

Herne Bay High School’s Amari Davis struck late against Tonbridge and Malling with what looked like being the winning goal - only for the visitors to equalise even later.

Canterbury’s hero of the shoot-out was David Siedlecki, who pulled off three penalty saves.They scored their spot-kicks through captain Fin Eastwood, Cook, Austin Gray and Lyonette.

Their Quarter-Final tie with Southampton will be played on Saturday, March 2, a great achievement for a squad which have only been together since last September.
