THE Lord’s Taverners 1,000-mile fund-raising Ashes Walk is coming to the St Lawrence Ground, Canterbury, on Saturday.
Leading the walk, which is expected at the ground at about 6pm, is the president of The Lord’s Taverners and England’s last successful Ashes captain, Mike Gatting.
At the ground will be a specially commissioned Getty Images Ashes photographic exhibition, with historic images from the 125 years of England versus Australia cricket, some that have never previously been publicly displayed.
Also on display will be MCC’s official replica Ashes urn and there will be the opportunity to have a photograph taken with the trophy. There is also a barbecue and bar available.
Members of the public can join the walk itself and raise money to help young people, by registering online at www.asheswalk.com or by calling 02078 212828.
The aim of the walk is to raise money to help regenerate competitive cricket in schools and to provide more opportunities for young people, particularly those with special needs, to enjoy sport and recreation.
Mike Gatting said: "Money raised by the Ashes Walk will be used to provide opportunities for children of all backgrounds and abilities to engage in sporting activities and particularly cricket."
