Kent’s second Vitality Blast match in a row was abandoned due to the weather.

Their match with Sussex on Friday at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence was called off after fewer than 12 overs of the game being played.

New signing Marcus Stoinis was in the Spitfires team for the match but did not get a chance to make an impact.

Sussex put Kent into bat after winning the toss with heavy rain and thunder forecast for later in the match.

Openers Daniel Bell-Drummond and Joe Denly got Kent off to a flying start hitting 66 from the first six powerplay overs.

Sussex’s overseas player Rashid Khan took a sensational diving one-handed catch running in from the boundary to remove Bell-Drummond for 22 off Chris Jordan’s bowling.

Khan then removed Denly from 52 when he deceived the Kent batter who came down the wicket and was stumped.

In the 12th over, with Kent 99-2, the players came off after a thunderstorm swept over The Spitfire Ground.

Both sides received a point from the match after it was abandoned.
