Faversham Town manager Ray Turner is counting the cost, both financial and physical, of the club’s FA Cup exit against Horsham.

The Lilywhites travelled to Sussex on Sunday for the second qualifying round clash in the midst of an injury crisis and lost 2-0, leaving Horsham to draw Chatham in the next round.

As well as missing out on £4,500 prizemoney and the prospect of further cup income, midfielder Wayne Wilson and forward Danny Hockton both suffered hamstring injuries which ruled them out of Tuesday’s Kent Senior Cup defeat at Hythe.

They are also set to be sidelined for the FA Trophy preliminary round trip to Aylesbury United – who play at Leighton Buzzard FC – on Sunday.

Ashley Brown (hamstring), James Peacock (back), Toby Ashmore (calf) and Michael Jenner (unavailable) are likely to be missing, although Darren Marsden could feature after missing Tuesday night’s game with a knock.

Turner said: “I might have to look at making a signing or getting someone in on loan this week. It really is the worst injury crisis since I’ve been at the club.

“It’s a difficult time but we’ll all stick together.”

He added: “I didn’t watch the draw but it didn’t take people long to tell me about it. It would have given us an opportunity to possibly take the club that one step closer to the first round.”

Town visit Worthing next Wednesday night, seeking a return to the top-five of Ryman League, Division 1 South.

Turner said: “It’s another tough trip for us and we’ll have to see how we’re doing for numbers after the weekend.

“Fortunately, everything is judged on your league position, so the only saving grace from having lost both games and gone out of both competitions this week is that it’s not six league points we have thrown away.

“The game on Sunday is another game that’s not in the league and it’s probably not a bad thing judging by our injuries.

“We know little about them. I’m hoping we’ll get a report from a manager in their league.”

He added: “We don’t want to lose too much ground in the league and hopefully we’ll be able to have some players back at Worthing.”
