Faversham boss Ray Turner says he is not unduly concerned about his side’s early-season defensive record and embraces their growing reputation as the Ryman League Division 1 South’s ‘entertainers.’

Town have conceded 11 goals in their four games so far –more than any other team in the division – while their goals for tally of 10 is bettered by just one side.

Turner said: “I suppose as long as we get one more than the opposition then I can’t complain too much.

“We have improved in the last two games and tightened-up a bit at the back, but what I really like is how much of a threat we look going forward.

“I don’t mind the goals against so much, although as a manager you are supposed to be concerned about conceding, because we are creating chances and consistently scoring two or three goals a game at the other end. At this level being entertaining is important too.”

After recording back-to-back wins against ambitious Horsham and Ramsgate, Town are back in the top-10 ahead of the derby at Herne Bay on Saturday and then another at home to Sittingbourne on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

Turner said: “Derbies are so difficult to predict and it will be three games in six days, and two in 48 hours which will be factors, especially if the conditions are hot.

“Herne Bay have gone on a little unbeaten run and look to be getting better and Sittingbourne is never an easy game, but we have settled down a bit.

“I asked for a response after the first two results – although we could count ourselves unlucky not to have got something out of them – and I’ve got it. The confidence is coming back.”
