Boss Ray Turner is hoping Faversham Town’s nightmare run ouside Kent finally comes to an end when they travel to struggling Eastbourne Town on Saturday.
Town head to the seaside having played in Sussex four times in all competitions this season, losing all four games and having lost seven and drawn the other two of their nine games outside Kent.
Despite heading to face a team who sit second-bottom and have won only two of their 15 games in Ryman League, Division 1 South, Turner is wary and said: “I don’t think we’ve ever won at Eastbourne either – it’s never been a happy hunting ground for us.”
Eastbourne recently signed Rocky Baptiste, 35, who counts Luton, AFC Wimbledon, Margate, Gravesend and Havant & Waterlooville among his many former clubs and has scored at Arsenal and played against Liverpool at Anfield during his career.
Turner added: “I think they have turned the corner a little bit, they won their last game against Tooting and scored four.
“The new management are getting them sorted and they have an ex-pro striker in Rocky who is always a handful. They have started scoring goals.”
After conceding a last-gasp leveller in the 2-2 draw at home to Folkestone on Saturday, Turner bemoaned Town’s two-point haul from their last three games, all of which they have dominated.
He said: “Against Walton & Hersham, Guernsey and now Folkestone, we have been good and should have had all nine points but as it is, we have two.
“We have to look at ourselves. We have to be more clinical and finish teams off. At the end of tight games, the other team are always going to have a chance. We need to get ahead and then we can relax.”
He added: “We just need something to fire us off again. I have said to the players that I want us to go on a long unbeaten run.”
Matt Bourne will serve a one-game ban after collecting five bookings.
