Ray Turner says it’s imperative for his Faversham squad to put the frustrations of three cup exits behind them as they enter a crucial phase of the season which could determine their promotion credentials.

After FA Cup and Kent Senior Cup exits in the previous week amid an unprecedented injury crisis at Salters Lane, Town tumbled out of the FA Trophy at Aylesbury on Sunday.

Turner admitted: “It’s a frustrating time, things have not been going our way. But we can’t afford to dwell on it and it’s important that we don’t lose perspective – look at the league table, it hasn’t hurt us in the league.”

Faversham, sitting ninth, lost 4-2 at Worthing on Wednesday, missing out on the three points needed to go joint fourth, with a game in hand on the top-three, before visiting rock-bottom Corinthian Casuals on Saturday and then hosting third-bottom Chipstead the following weekend.

Turner said: “This is going to be a key period of the season for us.

“It’s a disjointed couple of weeks in the league with other teams in FA Cup and FA Trophy action, while we have got guaranteed league games and it’s up to us to take full advantage of the opportunity that presents us with.

“It’s all well and good when you go out of the cups and you say you can focus on the league but you can only do that if you’re doing well in it.”

Defender Ash Brown (hamstring) is the only doubt for Saturday as Town’s walking wounded gradually return to action.

Turner added: “Hopefully we’ll be able to look back and see that our biggest problems of the season are behind us.

“We have had all those problems within the space of a week and they have cost us in three games but we can’t afford to dwell on it and let is affect our league ambitions.”

Michael Jenner is set to return from a ban against Corinthian Casuals, who have won just one of their 11 games so far.

However, Turner warned: “Some of our biggest struggles last season were against teams at the bottom, rather than those at the top who are more likely to come and attack you and make it a more open game.”

Faversham travel to Hastings on Monday in the League Cup, second round.
