Faversham manager Ray Turner says he won’t get carried away despite seeing his much-fancied Town team begin their season with two defeats.

Town lost only twice on the road all last season but went down 5-3 at Walton Casuals on Saturday before a 3-2 reverse at home to last season’s beaten play-off opponents Hythe on Tuesday night.

Turner said: “We started similarly last year, if I remember correctly and I can’t complain about how the season turned out.

“It just seems to be that we start slowly here. I can’t put my finger on why that is but if we finish as strong as we have done, then I won’t have too many complaints.

“I’ll not get carried away with being bottom of the league as we could easily be sat here top of the league with six points and I wouldn’t get carried away then either, although I’m sure some people might do.

“I am not about to lose faith in a group of players who have done so well for me. There is a fine line between six points and no points and we were close to six.”

The Lilywhites host Horsham on Saturday and visit Ramsgate on Tuesday looking to
re-ignite their push for a second straight play-off place in Ryman League Division 1 South and Turner said: “We want at least a point on the board before we play the derby game with Ramsgate but it won’t be easy.”

Teenage left-back Dan King faces a spell on the sidelines and an X-ray on his nose on Friday after being forced off following an elbow just 40 minutes into his debut on Saturday.
