Second century in as many games for Martin van Jaarsveld

RUN hungry South African batsman Martin van Jaarsveld hit his second century in as many pre-season games in Beckenham where Kent enjoyed the best of their two-day friendly with neighbours Surrey.

Having hit an unbeaten 105 against Nottinghamshire in Canterbury last week, the tall right-hander followed up with 109 not out against the Browncaps as Kent amassed 325 for five.

Van Jaarsveld hit 11 fours in his 195-ball stay and featured in century stands with Matt Walker (89) and Geraint Jones, who hit an attractive 62 not out from 119 balls with three fours and as many sixes.

Jones went to his 50 with consecutive sixes off left-arm spinner Uzman Afzal as Kent continued to dominate this 15-man per side game.

On day one, Surrey had found batting tricky at the Worsley Bridge Road ground, losing 13 wickets whilst posting only 195.

Kent start their first official fixture of the 2008 calendar on Saturday when they take on Leeds/ Bradford University Centre of Cricketing Excellence at the St Lawrence ground from 11am each day.
