Canterbury Rugby Club will attempt to finish their season on a high when they face Blackheath in the re-arranged Kent Cup final at Cranbrook’s Tomlin Ground on Sunday.

Following the original game’s postponement due to snow, head coach Danny Vaughan is pleased for the season to end with a final.

He said: "It falls nicely at the end of our season and it would be great to end with a trophy.

"We’re keen to continue our winning ways in the competition, having won the cup for the last three years.

"We aren’t sure what kind of team National League 2 Blackheath will put out but whatever side they have, we should have a fully fit squad to choose from so we’ll be prepared for them."

Canterbury’s final team could be close to the one that ended the National League 3 South campaign with a 16-15 defeat at Bridgwater last Saturday.

Despite failing to win, the losing bonus point ensured them a second successive fourth placed finish.

"I’d liked to have done better and chased the top three," Vaughan added.

"But the table doesn’t lie. The three teams above us have beaten us home and away this year and we’ve beaten London Scottish twice, so we deserve to be in fourth.

"But considering the difficult season we’ve had, it’s a good position to finish in."

Vaughan has confirmed that his new contract for next season is likely to be signed within the next couple of few weeks.
